On certain GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado trucks, the original equipment engine cover/air intake duct assembly is manufactured with an integrated air inlet tube. In normal use over time, engine vibration, moisture and underhood heat combine to weaken the polymer material and crack the tube. Ultimately, the tube can break away from the assembly entirely during routine air filter replacement service or while driving, exposing the unprotected intake and engine to damaging contaminants and debris. Often, the failure will also throw a P1101 trouble code. The dealership only offers a whole new air intake duct assembly - a costly repair that only invites a similar future failure.
